What do you do?
I research how variables such as air pollution, temperature, sunshine and smoking are linked to diabeter in children.
Why do you do it?
Since I was a little girl, my favourite question has been ‘why’! Resaerch lets me find out ‘why’ and answer questions that no one has answered before. I’m really interested in the influence of the environment, and the places we live, on our health.
Where are you from?
I’m from Bournemouth, Dorset.
How did you become a scientist?
I studied GCSE Triple Science, and A-levels in Biology, Geography and Maths. At university, I studied Geograpy and had a placement year working in a health statistics team at the Office for National Statistics.

What do you do?
I package medicines inside extremely small parcels that can be delivered to different areas of the body where they are needed.
Why do you do it?
Science impacts the world around us in ways we don’t even realise – getting a glimpse into this world is absolutely fascinating and you are always learning something new and exciting.
Where are you from?
I grew up in Kinsgbury Episcopi, Somerset
How did you become a scientist?
I studied GCSE Triple Science at school and really enjoyed it. I decided to study Chemistry later at university.

What do you do?
I make a tiny bed of nails which we use to inject medicines into cells. Each needle is a thousand times smaller than a human hair.
Why do you do it?
I’m fascinated by how we can use science and engineering to help us understand the world around us, and come up with new ideas that help improve life for lots of people. I also love learning new things.
Where are you from?
I grew up in Crewkerne, Somerset.
How did you become a scientist?
I studied GCSE Triple Science at school, then A-Level Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. I then went to university in London to study Physics, and stayed working there after I graduated.
